Wajir County Deputy Governor Ahmed Muhumed Abdi Caato has urged increased investment in youth with disabilities.
Ahmed Caato spoke after attending the Siyad Foundation Regional Tournament for the Deaf at Wagbari Primary Stadium on Friday, November 29, 2025.
Speaking at the final match between Dadab and Wajir Municipalities, Caato praised the foundation for supporting deaf youth, stressing that “disability is not inability.”
He highlighted the county government’s ongoing commitment to persons with disabilities, including annual funding of Sh40 million and the establishment of primary and secondary schools for the deaf.
“We thank the Siyat Foundation for providing the resources needed to host and fund this tournament,” he said.
“We encourage all public sector investors to come forth and invest in our youth. Disability is not inability. That is the theme of this game today.”
The tournament, initiated in 2016, is supported by Siyat Hassan Abdalla and the Siyat Foundation, who focus on talent development in the region.
“This is a unique tournament where deaf communities participate, and we urge all stakeholders to support this initiative,” Caato added.
Adannoor Mohammed, CEO of Siyad Foundation, said the tournament also promotes peace in the region.
“Yes to peace, not radicalisation, is our theme. Deaf youth are important partners in this cause,” he said.
Hafid Maalim, Chairperson of Persons with Disabilities in the Northeastern region, and Abdinashir Elmi, FKF Chairman, Wajir County, thanked the Siyat Foundation and local partners for ensuring the tournament’s success.
The competition brought together deaf youth from Wajir and Garissa counties, showcasing their talent and reinforcing stakeholders' commitment to inclusion, empowerment, and social cohesion.
